Rear Admiral HARRY ONYELUKACHUKWU NGONADI (rtd) is a brilliant strategist, he commanded land and sea forces in the Nigerian Navy. He was born in Ekpoma Edo state, Nigeria on 20 Jan, 1959. The distinguished officer began his Military career at the Nigeria Defence Academy Kaduna. He attended the Officer sub- Technical course and Officers long course in NNS QUORRA and Principal warfare officers course at the Naval College Onne Port Harcourt, Armed Forces Command and staff college Jaji – Nigeria, National Defence College Mirpu Bangladesh.
He is an Above water warfare (AWW)Specialist, he is specialist warfare officer and holds a Masters degree in Security studies from the Bangladesh University of professionals Dhaka (BUP) The Admiral has held several Command appointments in the Nigerian Navy which include; Commanding officer NNS OFIOM(LST).
Rear Admiral HO NGONADI also held several Training and Administrative appointments. Some of these include; The Training officer Cadet Training ship RUWAN YARO, Chief Instructor (CI) Naval Wing Nigerian Defence Academy, Commander Naval Unit Abuja, Directing staff Armed Forces Command and staff College Jaji-kaduna, Director Personnel Release Naval HQ. Director Administration Naval HQ, Pioneer Commander NNS JUBILEE IKOT ABASI, Pioneer Chief Staff Officer Central Naval Command Yenagoa. He also served in the United Nations as Military observer in Angola UNAVEM 3 and MONUA.
In recognition of his intellectual capacity and operational competence he was appointed Navy Secretary Naval HQ, Thereafter he became Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval command, the Nigeria Navy foremost Command with vital national strategic and economic assists and subsequently Director Development Defence HQ Abuja.
The Admiral has participated in various national assignment notably is the committee on the formulation of the new National Security strategy anchored by the office of the National Security Adviser.
He was awarded certificate in National and International Security Senior Executive course at the Haward Kennedy school Boston USA. The Admiral is a seasoned seaman and member of many professional bodies notably; Fellow Chartered Institute of Shippers and US Naval Institute. He also served as a facilitator in many courses, Workshops, Seminars and Conferences he attended both within and outside the country.
Rear Admiral is skilled in Leadership development, Negotiation, Strategic Planning, Personnel management, Government Liaison, Security Management, Operational planning and National Security matters. He is fully proficient in English, Native dialect Ibo, with elementary proficiency in Portuguese. He is a receiver of several honours, decoration and award; Passed Staff College Dagger (Psc+), Force Service staff (FSS), Distinguished Service Staff (DSS), Meritorious Service Staff(MSS), General Service Star (GSS), National Defence College Bangladesh and fellow Chartered Institute of Shippers(FCIS).
Rear Admiral Harry Ngonadi is an outstanding Military Officer, an admired mentor, teacher and a brilliant strategist deeply immersed in the interplay of Security Management, operational planning and Maritime Security matters. He won widespread high praise and commendations for his leadership, management skills, his integrity and fairness, his intellectual curiosity and analytical acuity and his ability to work thoughtfully and constructively with people across the political spectrum.
His incisive mind, his openness to different perspectives, his instinct for collaboration, and his engaging, and collegial style and dedication to high ideals have propelled his success in series of roles.
Since his voluntary retirement from active military service, Harry has been engaged in private business, deploying his multi-faced skills to great use while still contributing to national development by serving on various occasions as a resource person to diverse public and private sector organizations.
Rear Admiral Ngonadi is happily married to Mrs. Nkechi Harry- Ngonadi CEO NHN couture and blessed with children. His hobbies include Golfing, Reading and listening to Praise and worship Music.
